Firearm & Bow Hunter Safety

Tuesday
Nov222011

Firearm Hunter Education is a program ensuring that safe, respectful and responsible hunters participate in the sport of hunting in Nebraska. This program is mandated by the Nebraska Legislature, administered by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and taught by dedicated volunteer instructors. Students are taught to a set of standards, established by the International Hunter Education Association. By meeting these standards the Nebraska Hunter Education program is recognized and honored on the entire North American continent.
Proof of completion is required for everyone born on or after January 1, 1977, who hunts any species of game, game animal or game bird in Nebraska using a firearm or crossbow. No one under age 12 is required to carry proof of completion while hunting, but everyone 12 or older, born on or after January 1, 1977 must have proof of completion on their person while hunting. Generally all residents 16 years of age or older and non-residents regardless of age must be licensed to hunt game (a hunting license is not required for residents while hunting big game with a valid permit). Everyone must have a habitat stamp (except for those exempted), on their person while hunting in Nebraska.

Both Firearm and Bow Hunter Safety courses are offered each year at the NRD office in Thedford. For upcoming dates check our calendar or call the office at 308-645-2250. You can also visit the Nebraska Game and Parks website at http://outdoornebraska.gov/
